Relocating to Squarespace

For the last four years, my portfolio website had been on Wix. While it served me well, whenever I did a portfolio review with a mentor or creative colleague I was told to move over to Squarespace. No one really ever explained the why though - they just said it was better.

When doing my final updates on the Wix platform, I noticed a few things:

  • Wix allowed a lot of customization, but it often caused problems with how things looked on phones, and sometimes things just didn't work.

  • When I looked at other people's portfolios, I saw that many of them looked good on different screen sizes. I checked the code through the Developer’s Console and realized that a majority were made using Squarespace.

About two weeks ago, I started moving everything to Squarespace. The improvements were clear right away. Not only did it immediately adapt better, but the customization options available through third-party support was excellent. One tool, Universal Filters, helped me organize my portfolio better. Thanks to what I learned in my JavaScript course at Harvard Extension School, I could understand how to adjust the code in HTML to make things work well.

Even though Squarespace doesn't natively have as many choices for customizing as Wix, the options they have fit my needs better. And now that my portfolio has the look and feel I’ve desired, I feel more motivated than ever to keep improving it.
