Diving into Coding: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

When I made the decision to pursue graduate school at Harvard Extension School, I knew that my first class would be focused on JavaScript. While I had a basic understanding of HTML and CSS, my knowledge of programming in general was limited. To prepare for the course, I set aside time each day to learn programming. While I started with YouTube tutorials, I quickly realized that I needed a more engaging process. I turned to platforms like CodeAcademy, Sololearn, and Mimo, which offered gamified experiences to keep me coming back for coding practice.

I intentionally chose to prioritize learning HTML first. I had utilized HTML occasionally while making edits to emails designed in Klaviyo and when examining web information using Inspect mode. I also had some familiarity with CSS from using the Unbounce platform to add style traits to landing pages. As I progressed through the weeks of programming with these gamified platforms, my understanding of how these languages worked together deepened significantly.

Now, I am just two weeks away from the start of my summer course, and I anticipate that my knowledge will be put to the test. I am genuinely excited about the projects I will undertake as part of my coursework and the potential avenues this knowledge will open up for me in the future. I look forward to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
